Uncommon Learning

By Heather Hoffman

The Learning Commons at Lakewood Montessori Middle School is a very lively place, where students work together, participate in Model UN, get lost in a book, or just eat lunch.  Ms. Gredvig, the librarian, loves to help her students, but the students often help her, too, by scanning and shelving books.  Sarah Crimmins is an energetic seventh grader who spends most of her time in the Learning Commons.  She is a special member of Community 5 and the greater Lakewood community, playing drums in the school band and cheerleading for the school’s teams.

I really enjoyed photographing Lakewood this semester, and especially loved getting to know Sarah.  I am greatly appreciative to her parents, teachers, and friends, as well as Susie Post-Rust and my Documentary Studies class for teaching and helping me throughout this process.  I hope you enjoy the show!
